What is Iontophoresis?

Iontophoresis is a topical technique used to prevent sweating. It involves using a machine to pass a very small electric current into the skin of the hands and feet, which reduces sweat production or stops the sweat glands from producing sweat temporarily.{tip The underarms or armpit}Axillae{/tip} can be treated by using axillae electrodes.

It is a very safe technique and the iontophoresis machine utilises tap water to carry out the treatment.

How long does Iontophoresis take and how many treatments will I require?

On average the treatments takes approximately 20 minutes. Initially 6 treatments will be required in the first 3 weeks, and then every 6 weeks to 6 months depending on the individual. This treatment has temporary effects, therefore ongoing treatments are required.
